Besteyfield Farm

Besteyfield Farm is a small-scale, pastured based egg farm owned and operated by Ben Butterfield. Ben began producing eggs in the Intervale as an incubator farm in 2013 and has gradually grown his business since then. Ben is committed to producing high-quality eggs at an accessible price point. In 2017 he moved the farm to its current location in Hinesburg, VT. After almost a year of expanding and converting this new space, there was an opportunity to utilize a second barn on the property. Ben came to the Vermont Farm Fund for a $30,000 loan to set up the second barn for egg production, which will allow him to increase production to 3000 layers split between three flocks. Switching to a three flock rotation will smooth out production numbers and maintain a consistent supply of eggs. The improvements to the second barn include roll-off nesting boxes, lighting, automatic feeders and waterers, and cooler.
