Cow Train at Hartshorn Farm Market

One of the VFF’s returning Borrowers, Dave Hartshorn of Hartshorn Farm Market in Waitsfield, VT had paid off his latest loan from the VFF and came back to us with a new idea: to increase agritourism in the Mad River Valley by purchasing a “cow train”. The cow train provides an activity for kids and parents when they come to the farm. The cow train is pulled by a small tractor and provides a way for kids to see the farm in action. The farm has been expanding to offer a variety of food & farm tours as well as summer camps for kids.

Hartshorn Farm Market grows fruits and vegetables which are sold through their farmstand, CSA, farmers’ markets, and direct sales to stores and restaurants. They also host a variety of on-farm festivals throughout the year.
